"I first wanted to learn how to play hertas in high school when I saw an upperclassman ramming them during rehearsal one day. He had just gotten back from a drum corps camp and was showing off what hertas were, and how you could play them with all the "left hands up" to create this rhythm I'd never heard before. It caused my brain to short circuit. I remember thinking how cool he was and how cool I'd be if only I could play hertas as well..."
