HALT - Behavior Management Handout

Have students reflect on how they are feeling

HALT

Behavior Management Handout

HALT is an acronym that mental health professionals use in treatment with adults. However, I believe it is applicable to students who are having behavioral problems in schools as well. It's important to have students reflect on what is happening inside their brains and bodies that contributes to the behavior they express. HALT stands for "H - hungry, A - angry, L - lonely, T - tired." Although it's typically used with adults who are gaining understanding of the triggers of their addictions, I think students can benefit from this acronym as well. Use it as a handout for students or put it up by your treatment table to remind students to think about how they are feeling during certain moments.
